Making Custom Brushes in PSP 7
The image you'd like to use to create a brush cannot not be larger than 250x250 in version 7.
Your can create a brush from virtually any image. Usually I'll go through my graphics CD collections
and choose images from there but you can also draw something freehand using any of your drawing tools
or create a brush from a font (make sure it's deselected first). I've seen brushes created from
brush strokes or simple shapes that are wonderful to use. After I create my brush I test it out
and, if needed, change the opacity and the size. Sometimes an image is not suitable for creating a brush
for whatever reason. I've deleted brushes I've been unhappy with. After some practice and experience
you'll know which images will make a nice usable brush.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Open the image from which you'd like to create a brush. For this tutorial I am going to use an angel image.
2. Using your Magic Wand tool click anywhere outside the image, go to Selections and choose Invert. Your image is now selected.
You'll see marching "ants" around your image.
3. Right click on your brushes tool and click Tool Options, a small window will open.
You'll see a small brush icon on your right. Click that and from the drop down menu choose Custom.
Click Create. You'll see your new brush appear in the window. Click Ok.
4. Now navigate to your Brushes folder, you'll see the name UBRUSH. Right click on that and click
Rename. Type in the name of your new brush. Now you're new brush will be available for you
to use.
