Open a new image, transparent about 300x300 pixels to give you a large enough
canvas to work in. New Raster Layer -> From your presets shapes select button 005, be
sure to check Retain Style. Draw your shape with any dimensions your choose.
With your magic wand click on anywhere outside your shape, Selections,
Invert. Keep selected. Add New Raster Layer ->.Floodfill with the gradient of your
choice. I used one of my own gradients which you can download here, unzip to your gradients folder. Deselect. Now go to
Layers -> Properties -> Blend Mode choose 'Color' from the dropdown menu and
lower the opacity to about 75.
Layers Merge Visible. Edit, Copy, Paste as new image and you're
done.
Here are some examples using this technique with brushes and tubes. When adding a tube be sure to lower the layer opacity to around 55 or so to get the transparent effect and, if needed, crop away any part of the tube that overlaps the button.
